THE 12TH ANNUAL BONDI SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

 

In front of a sell-out crowd at the iconic Bondi Beach Pavilion on Saturday 24th November, the 12th annual Bondi Short Film Festival announced its 2012 award winners from a shortlist of 14 finalists.

With a prize pool valued at over $10,000 up for grabs, the short list of films was deliberated over by a stellar line up of judges from the film and television industry including Noni Hazlehurst, Christiaan Van Vuuren, Jessica Tovey, Kristy Best, Dr Ruth Harley and Andrew McFarlane.

Director of the Bondi Short Film Festival, Francis Coady said, “It is heartening to see such large crowds of people supporting independent Australian film year on year. We look forward to unearthing and presenting more wonderful films in 2013 and beyond.”

We all know boxing to be a brutal pursuit, but few recognise and appreciate the artistry of its finesse, strategy and heart. Seen through the eyes of Newton “The Butcher” Kidd, a grassroots professional fighter from the Bronx, New York, The Art of Boxing takes a cinematic view of the complexity and poetry of boxing by shattering the commonly held view of a simplistic and barbaric contest, elevating the drama, determination and struggles of this passionate boxer.

SPRING INTO SPRING AND GET YOUR FILM IN!

Entries are now open for the 12th Bondi Short Film Festival

The sweet smell of spring is just around the corner and this can only mean one thing. The 2012 Bondi Short Film Festival has launched its call to all Australian filmmakers to enter their short film and be a part of its 12th anniversary year.

Filmmakers can visit the new Bondi Short Film Festival website www.bondishortfilmfestival.com to download entry forms and details. The only limitations on their creativity being, that their film must be no longer than 15 minutes, and no more than 18 months old.

The festival prides itself on being one of the only film festivals in the World that does not charge and entry fee as the producers understand the costs that go into creating a film.

From stunning animations to powerful dramas, cutting edge documentaries and quirky comedies, it is little wonder that the Bondi Short Film Festival has reached cult status amongst indie filmmakers.
Incredible prizes are up for grabs to the winner of Best Film. They include a return flight to North America courtesy of Showtime Movie Channels, Spectrum Films’ editing package valued at $3,000; WeWood eco-friendly watches and all wooden “Proof” Sunglass package valued at over $500 with more to be announced.

The Festival has firmly established itself on the calendar of local up-and coming-filmmakers. Added to great prizes, the Festival provides filmmakers with the opportunity to showcase their film to a sell-out crowd – including a judging panel of heavy hitters from the Australian film industry like. Previous judges have included Bruce Beresford, Margaret Pomeranz, Sam Worthington and Brendan Cowell to name a few.

“The Bondi Short Film Festival is 100% Australian content. We are also completely independent. And so 12 years on, having attracted over 3,000 quality entries and counting – Twelve years is not only a great milestone for the Festival, but it also clearly shows the growing public support, for local films and the short film medium.” says Founder and Festival Director, Francis Coady.

Restriction: Films must be made by an Australian director or producer. Films must be less than 18 months old and not longer than 15 minutes. A director can entry multiple films.
